Anwar Montasir is a web developer, UX designer, and instructor based in Portland, OR. I’m currently employed as a Senior Curriculum Writer of Product Design at Flatiron School.
As a UX designer, my favorite passage ever is “Design for scanning, not reading” from Don’t Make Me Think! I believe in user-centric design, and enforce those principles even when teaching development. There’s no point in starting the development process without identifying the user, conducting research, and defining a coherent strategy.
As an instructor, I do my best to make students as marketable as possible by providing them with relevant skills, as well as offering guidance on career services and interview prep. I encourage my development students to understand usability concerns, and my design students to learn at least the basics of development. I continually introduce my students to appropriate resources so they may continue educating themselves after graduation.
“Design is really an act of communication, which means having a deep understanding of the person with whom the designer is communicating.” ― Don Norman, The Design of Everyday Things
